Det Hanseatiske Hotel Review, Bergen, Norway

There are three restaurants: Casa Del Toro, offering – somewhat incongruously in the shadow of snow-capped peaks and fishing boats – Mexican; the more intimate and formal Finnegaardsstuene, serving traditional cuisine; and FG, a modern brasserie, where we enjoyed perfectly cooked Norwegian salmon, a decent burger, and a well-judged chocolate fondant (mains from around kr219/£17). The cosy adjoining bar, filled with leather sofas, was unfortunately closed during our stay. Norwegian hotels don’t hold back when it comes to the breakfast buffet, and here is no exception with a bewildering array of cured meats, cheeses, pickles and breads, and even a few tempting slices of chocolate tart (well, why not?).
