Dominic Monaghan hasn’t yet been requested for our Hot Guy Friday posts, but I would like to nominate him. There’s something earnest about him, he’s got a super cute accent, and while he’s not traditionally hunky he does have a kind of ruddy appeal. Dom recently played the abusive love interest in the Eminem and Rihanna video, Love the Way you Lie, also starring Megan Fox. A lot of you noted that he was super sexy in that video, and he was – when he was making out with Megan instead of fighting with her. He was so troubled and unhinged-looking when they were fighting, which just goes to show what a great actor he is.

Dom made an appearance on the premiere episode of L.A. Ink, which aired on Tuesday. He had Kat Von D ink a quote from Yoda from The Empire Strikes Back on his forearm, “Luminous Beings Are We. Not This Crude Matter.” The videos of Monaghan on the show are below, and I like him so much after seeing this. You can tell that he’s proud to be a working actor but the guy just seems realistically confident and not arrogant at all. He’s also just the right combination of geek and movie star.

Dom explained his motivation to have that quote permanently inked. “In the past four or five years or so, I’ve gotten more and more into the idea that this [gestures to his body] is essentially just a shell for what we’re trying to achieve.” He later explained that “I think the quote is something that will resonate with me for the rest of my life, because I do think that the body we sit in is a shell for the important thing that’s really happening inside.” He may have been feeling particularly spiritual as he was on crutches after breaking his foot in a surfing accident. Sometimes injuries and close calls help us realize what matters in life.

Dom asked Kat for an optical-illusion type image that made it look like the skin was peeled away to reveal the quote. While he was getting inked, he explained that he’s a “Big Star Wars fan. That is the reason why I became an actor.”

He loved the results and said “It looks kind of knarly… I was blown away by it to be honest.”

This week’s National Enquirer claims that Monaghan is still pining for his “lost” love, Evangeline Lilly. They use his quote that it was “work” to film that video with Megan Fox as evidence that he’s still hung up on Evangeline. Dominic said “It’s work. You have to understand that cameras are being pointed at you and they’re in your face and people are telling you to move this way or move that way. It’s not terrible work, but it is work.” The Enquirer quotes a source who says that Dominic “still can’t get Evangeline out of his head” and that “he is devastated and not even kissing Megan Fox can overcome that feeling.”

I was trying to remember when these two broke up, and reviewing our past stories they split for the first time way back in November, 2007 when Monaghan’s character was killed off Lost, but then got back together by February, 2008 and were said to be engaged last summer. We didn’t cover their breakup after that point, and I’m having trouble Googling it so maybe they kept it quiet. We then heard earlier this year that Evangeline was dating a production assistant.

I hope it’s not true that Dom is still hung up on Evangeline. It would make sense since they were together for so long, but there must be plenty of women he can console himself with. I’m sure that there are all sorts of interesting lovelies who would like to break off a piece of Dom’s luminous being.
